HOME
Both soulful and playful, Home is a powerful opening concert to the year, exploring the music of modern Australia.
Camerata performs Concerto for Strings by Margaret Sutherland, described as an original and fearless composer and more than the Mother of Australian music – she was the Matriarch.
Carl Vine takes a baroque music form and gives it a thrilling makeover in his Concerto Grosso, while the heart of Richard Meale sings on through Cantilena Pacifica.
Paul Stanhope’s acclaimed Elegies and Dances is receiving performances throughout the country, and Lyle Chan’s music is widely recognised and lauded, with autobiographical references to his activism at the height of the AIDS epidemic.
At the heart of Home is the evocative Lines of the Southern Cross, composed by Camerata founding leader, Cameron Patrick. Commissioned by the LA Chamber Orchestra, it features a special response to its themes through dance.
